History
Washington, D.C.'s Union Station was built jointly by the Pennsylvania
(PRR)
and Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Railroads on an area of swampland near
the U.S.
Capitol Building. The station, designed by architect Daniel Burnham, opened
with the arrival of a B&O Railroad passenger train from Pittsburgh
on
October 27, 1907
During the 1980's the station underwent a major renovation, costing over
$160 Million Dollars. Completed in 1988, the effort restored the station's
grandeur and remade it into a dynamic transportation, shopping, and dining
destination.
A Traveler's Aid
A Traveler's Aid station, open during most daytime hours, is located in
the
train concourse near the McDonald's. Traveler's Aid provides free advice
and
assistance to travelers needing directions, travel tips, etc. Approximate
hours are 8 - 5:00 Monday through Saturday and 12:30 - 5:00 on Sunday.
The station area and the train platforms are accessible by the physically
challenged.
Info
The food court, drug store, and movie theaters are in the basement. The
shops and food court are open Monday -Saturday 10 AM -9 PM; Sunday 12
Noon -
6 PM. Some restaurants stay open later and some services like McDonald's
and
the news stands cater to the early morning traveler.

Take Capital Beltway
Exit New Hampshire Avenue (South)
New Hampshire Avenue turns into North Capitol Street at the District line
